The Never-Ending Journey
The Never-Ending Journey project is a playscape inspired by Alice in Wonderland, designed to guide children on an imaginative adventure similar to Alice's journey. The space encourages exploration while symbolizing the continuous journey of life and the importance of play, even into adulthood. The design incorporates thoughtful space planning and material selection, utilizing Rhino3D and the Grasshopper plug-in for development and refinement. A large ovular swing on one side of the playscape and a smaller one on the other creates an optical illusion of distance as one approaches the structure. The two symmetrical volumes are rotated slightly to enhance this illusion as well. These two volumes conceal what is inside, forcing a child to start on the outside, climbing to the top of the structure. Netting that creates the illusion of the hole allows the child to climb back down to ground level, where they have an option of where to go. The child can go through the holes in the ground to pop out back outside or inside one of the two volumes. Once the child goes into these volumes, a colorful and magical moment of solitude is revealed. Allowing children to explore and find their journey throughout a space plays off of the journey of life and finding play even in adulthood as portrayed in Chapters 1 and 2 of Alice in Wonderland.
Luxury Boutique Hotel
While co-oping at AvroKO Design for the summer 2023 semester, I was responsible for designing the guest room corridor of a luxury boutique resort project. I started by pulling imagery and creating a concept board that aligns with the overall project concept. I then took the AutoCAD floor plan into Sketchup to model the space, Enscape to render, and Photoshop for after effects. After reviewing several material, FF&E, and architectural iterations with my project team, we settled on a final design.
